Lymph Whiz Kit - Megan Belanger

4 CEs

Join Megan Belanger in a high-energy overview of how the lymphatic system is built, how it works, and what can go wrong. We’ll take a closer look at the pathologies of lymphedema and lipedema as well as gold standard and up-and-coming treatments for these chronic diseases, we'll dive into exciting information on the neurolymphatics/glymphatics, and we’ll showcase some of the emerging education and research that’s happening in lymphatics and see where diagnostics and treatments are headed in the future. Lecture will be interspersed with Megan guiding students through two self-manual lymphatic drainage massage protocols, one for the central/neurolymphatics and one tailored for the extremities.

Pregnancy Complications and Racial Disparities: A Closer Look - Sakinah Irizarry

4 CEs

Our discussion will delve into common pregnancy complications from preeclampsia to preterm birth. We will explore contributing biological factors, but also examine the stark racial disparities plaguing maternal health today.

Through critical analysis of research and reporting, we will identify systemic factors contributing to these inequalities, inform future discussions about equitable access to care, and explore ways in which massage therapy could help at-risk pregnant individuals.

The Ethics of Solidarity: Seeing Yourself In Others to Provide the Best Possible Care - Kerry Jordan and Cal Cates

4 CEs

In this 4-hour course, Kerry Jordan and Cal Cates will take participants on a journey through their own minds with a focus on the parts that we all wish didn’t exist– the places where bias, “othering” and all of the things that continue to make us feel separate from each other live and grow.

The course will include exploration of the neurobiological realities of implicit bias, the importance of shifting from a perspective of cultural competency to one of cultural humility.

Kerry and Cal will then support participants in an exploration of specific issues that relate to the ethical care of members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Participants will be invited to engage with current events, with each other and with themselves through a series of small-group exercises and large-group discussions to develop a working understanding and specific skills of communication and perspective-taking that will support them in providing effective, equitable care to members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Integrating Fascia Research into Clinical Practice- Cathy Ryan

4 CEs

Since 2007 the International Fascia Research Congress (IFRC) has filled a much-needed void in manual therapy research - enhancing our understanding of fascia’s functional role, the consequences of injury/dysfunction and how our work ... works.

This course will explore the fundamentals of current fascial foundational science, evidence informed clinical considerations and engage participants in knowledge translation for the purpose of facilitating better client outcomes.

Research serves its purpose best when put into action – so off the page and onto the table!

An afternoon snack will be served.
